APCG 2026 Conference Congratulations & Highlights
Congratulations for a great ֦Ƶ Geography turn out at the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers (APCG) Annual Meeting held this year in Hilo, Hawaii. I am so proud of the 6 Geography MA students who attended the conference and the great papers and posters that were presented and the scholarships and best paper award won! Additionally, Professor Christine Jocoy and Professor Linna Li attended the conference and presented fantastic papers based on pedagogical innovations in Geography education.
Sam King won the APCG's President's Award for Outstanding Paper at the Master's Level for his presentation "USAID-Zambia: The Lived Experience of an Aid Rupture and the Retrenchment of U.S. Soft Power”. Way to go, Sam!
Joe Caxton Odawa won two scholarships the APCG African Descent Student Travel Grant and the Eugene Hoerauf Scholarship Grant for Studies in Cartography and GIS. Joe also presented a great poster titled "Where is the Shade: Shade Equity and Distribution and its Effects on the Residents of Long Beach, California.” So impressive, Joe!
Tomas Piedad presented his first conference paper and was very well received with his thesis research titled "Homeland Regional Identity, Labor Pathways, and Belonging among Filipino Immigrants in Long Beach, California”.
Lucas South presented a very compelling poster “Impacts of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite Constellations on Local Dark Skies” on their developing thesis research and Sam Flexo did a wonderful job presenting his poster "Is Firewise, Firewise?”
Way to go ֦Ƶ Geography! I hope that some of you will consider attending next year's 2027 APCG Conference in Portland, Oregon, hosted by Portland State University's Geography Department, October 7-10, 2027! The ֦ƵGeographical Society conference in April 2027 in Sacramento is another good opportunity to attend a conference and present your work.
Some photos included below to highlight all the great experiences we had. Go Beach!
