ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ faculty have been awarded a 6-year $4.2M grant from the NSF's Partnership for Research and Education in Materials (PREM) program. The grant opens doors to new opportunities for ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ students in research, education, and broadening participation in materials science.

More than 2,700 people visited Cal State Long Beach on July 20 for the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics annual open house. The community event showcased the college's research and achievements while engaging children in educational activities.

The Physics and Astronomy Department hosted the Great North American Eclipse Viewing on the Long Beach State campus, where people stretched out on the grass, listened to eclipse-appropriate music, and watched the celestial event with special viewing glasses.

Dr. Judy Brusslan was recently elected to the rank of Fellow in the American Association for the Advancement of Science! Members elected to Fellow are those whose "efforts on behalf of the advancement of science, or its applications, are scientifically or socially distinguished."

Congratulations to our CNSM winners of the 2024 University Achievement Awards: Dr. Christine Whitcraft, Dr. Raisa Hernandez Pacheco, Dr. Tom Maricich, and graduate student Emily Marquez.

Dr. Kelly Young has been select as the recipient of the Wang Family Excellence Award for Outstanding Faculty Innovator in Student Success for her innovative mentoring training program that impacts up to 140,000 CSU students. Congratulations, Dr. Young!

Congratulations to Dr. Andrea Balbas and Dr. Alex Klotz on their recent National Science Foundation CAREER Awards! CAREER Awards are some of the most prestigious offered by NSF, given to those "who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization."

For more than 20 years, The Beach has provided instructors to teach on Catalina, giving students the experience of hands-on research, presenting their findings to friends and family at a symposium, and writing academic papers.

You can now take a tour of CNSM completely virtually! The fully immersive experience shows prospective students a slice of life at ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ, and includes 360 panoramic tours of multiple labs in HSCI and MLSC, as well as messages from faculty and alumni.

Three Environmental Science and Policy majors were recently awarded the Port of Long Beach's ES&P scholarships. Financial support in the form of scholarships help ensure that ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ recipients graduate faster, have reduced debt upon graduation, and have less stress while taking classes.
