Maya King '27
My first year at ֦Ƶ I was lucky enough to dorm on campus in Parkside L. At the time, I was undeclared taking courses on the biology track. This experience helped me so much at becoming a semi-independent person and taught me so much about myself and life. Since then, I changed my major not just once, but twice, stopping in liberal studies for a semester before officially declaring psychology in the spring semester of my second year (2025). I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to explore so many departments and courses at ֦Ƶ while having so much support from staff and faculty in the process. During this semester, I also started working as a Student Assistant on campus in University Relations and Development. Working here has allowed me to become more involved in campus and my major while still being able to support myself. I have had so many amazing opportunities and have met so many amazing people while at URD that have truly shaped my experience at ֦Ƶ for the better.
I am a family girl so going to school somewhere that was close enough to home but still allowed me to live on my own and have the “cDZ Գ” was super important to me. ֦Ƶ was and is the perfect distance for that.
Considering I was undeclared when starting, I also wanted to go to a school that had all around amazing programs so that I knew no matter where I ended up, I would receive a good education.
Honestly, I will probably take some time to chill and travel. I have been very “go go go” my whole life and I think it’s important to take time to take it all in and enjoy the short period after graduating before employment or grad school. I also hope to see myself back at ֦Ƶ in the future for my Master’s, or maybe even employment.
The Beach offers so many mentoring programs that I would love to be a part of in the future to not only stay connected as an Alum but also work with and help students.
