FORP Peer Reviewer Program

FORP Faculty Peer Reviewers play a critical role in supporting the Faculty Online Readiness Program (FORP) by conducting reviews of online courses and sharing expertise with peers about their course development process.

The FORP course review process is a collaborative learning opportunity in which Peer Reviewers work closely with ATS Instructional Designers to provide thoughtful and constructive feedback to FORP participants and help foster a culture of mutual learning and growth.

Review the information and requirements below to determine if it's right for you. Contact ats-id@csulb.edu to indicate your interest. An ATS Instructional Designer will contact you to discuss the details.

Besides the satisfaction you will have from supporting colleagues and being part of a community of practice dedicated to online course quality, Peer Reviewers will receive:

  1. A stipend based on the number of reviews completed. Stipend requirements are outlined on the page below.
  2. A Letter of Support for reappointment, tenure, and promotion (RTP).
  3. Digital badges at various milestones.

Faculty Peer Reviewers are familiar with course design, are well-versed in online course development and delivery, and have experience teaching online for multiple years.

Faculty Peer Reviewers are part of our ÀóÖ¦ÊÓƵ Quality Assurance Community of Practice and are certified in the following Quality Matters training:

  1. Provide thoughtful, constructive feedback using the FORP Course Checklists. 
  1. Complete assigned peer reviews within three (3) weeks. 
  1. Communicate professionally with FORP faculty participants and ATS Instructional Designers throughout the review process. 
  1. Maintain confidentiality and respect the privacy of faculty and their course materials. 

  • Faculty Peer Reviewers will receive $75 for completing their first course review.
  • The stipend amount will increase based on the number of courses reviewed and will reset every fall.

Please note: The number of courses available to review depends on the number of FORP participants who submit a checklist; there is no guarantee that Peer Reviewers will have any courses to review during any specified time.

FORP Peer Reviewers will be enrolled in the Peer Reviewer Resource Canvas course. This course contains helpful aids and documentation listed below for your reference.

Additionally, grading and badges will be set up in this course to keep track of the reviews you complete. Badges will be awarded after reaching various milestones. Badges are awarded for up to 100 reviews.

How many courses can I review?
This depends on when participants submit their checklists. You will only be assigned to review a course once a checklist is submitted. We will ask for your availability twice per year and the estimated number of reviews you'd like to have but cannot guarantee that number.

What level of feedback am I expected to provide?
Peer Reviewers are expected to examine courses using the Course Training Checklist based on the standards. Reviewers will identify evidence of how the standards are met or not met and provide helpful recommendations for improvement.

Will I be required to review courses for all 42 standards of the Quality Matters Rubric?
The course reviews for FORP will be based on an abbreviated set of QM Rubric standards (no more than 7 standards) per checklist.

If I am a Peer Reviewer for multiple FORP courses, will I be assigned different FORP participants for each course?
You may be assigned to different participants in each course since you are not assigned to a participant until they submit a checklist. Peer Reviewers will also be assigned in a rotation to keep the dissemination of reviews more equitable.

If I am a Peer Reviewer for multiple courses, will I work with different Instructional Designers for each course?
Since you will be assigned to participants based on when their checklists are submitted, you may also end up with a different Instructional Designer.
